Learning to Drive!

Hello Everyone,

A while ago I did a blog post about passing your driving theory test. I basically gave you some tips that could help you to pass and gave you a bit of an idea of what your theory test would be like. Click here if you want to read that as it might help you if you're taking you theory test soon.

Today I wanted to do a blog post that's connected to that post which is all about learning to drive. In this post I hope to give you some tips on learning to drive, first lesson nerves and finding the best driving instructor for you. I hope this helps because I know that some people can find learning to drive quite scary.

Tip 1 - Meet the Instructor first
I think it's a really good idea to meet your instructor before you have your first lesson. This will give you a chance to get to known him/her and decide whether you're going to get on with them or not. If you meet them and don't really like them that much you then have the chance to cancel your lessons with them and find a new driving instructor before you start. It's never too late to change instructors if you don't like the one you've got but it is better to stick to one as they know what you've learned so far and you won't have to unnecessarily repeat things. Meeting them is also a good way for you to hear about how they teach.

Tip 2 - Choose an instructor that YOU like
I agree that going with an instructor that you've heard a lot about and that teaches people that you know to drive as well is a good idea. However, if you don't like the look of that particular instructor then look for someone else. There will be plenty of instructors in your area so don't worry. Maybe your mum and dad want you to learn with the same person as your sibling but you don't want to. be honest and tell you parents that you want to learn with someone else. You're the one who is going to have to spend hours with this person.

Tip 3 - Book your lessons in advance
I would highly recommend booking your driving lessons in advance especially if you want to learn straight away. Ring up and book them ASAP because the driving instructor you want might be busy and have a waiting list so if you want a lesson on your birthday it's best to book in advance.

Tip 4 - Stay Positive
It's really important to stay positive when you're learning to drive. Remember that you are more than capable of learning to drive it's just going to take some time. You're going to get things wrong but don't let yourself get disheartened. Practice makes perfect. Driving is a completely new skill to the majority of us so it's going to take sometime to get it right. There are going to be some things that you get straight away and other that will take ages to perfect. Be prepared for this and stay positive. You can do it!

"If at first you don't succeed try and try again."

I hope you have found this post helpful. If you are going to be learning to drive soon, Good Luck. Try to enjoy it and remember that you are learning a completely new skill so don't feel bad about yourself when you make a misktake. Everyone makes mistakes when learning to drive so don't worry & remember...Practice makes perfect!

Pretty Perfect x
